The Myth of Shoaib Akhtar's Menace to India.

Shoaib Akhtar played seven tests against India (including the current one in Karachi). He got 8 wickets on the first one in Calcutta, including two stunning dismissals of Dravid and Tendulkar. And that was how the myth began. But he was never a major threat to India, contrary to what the myth suggests. He got only 8 wickets more in the five completed tests after that first one in Calcutta. Even in the current test match, when Indians struggled against the moving ball, he could get only two wickets.

Quite true. His average against India is 35, 10 runs more than his overall average of 25. And he's never taken a 5 for against India.

Cricinfo has the stats

Yazad, thanks for your comment. Yes, when compared with his overall record his record against India is particularly bad.

Adnan: Thanks for the comment. I must disagree with you. He not only did not get wickets, but never seriously troubled the Indian batsmen, except in in the first test in Calcutta and the this last in Karachi. Indians have in fact generally scored heavily against him in ODIs (world cup 2003, recent ODI series in India and Pakistan) and dealt with easily in tests.
